Depot St, over Naugatuck River, Beacon Falls

This steel bridge, constructed in 1935, spans about 200 feet over the Naugatuck River and consists of two Parker through trusses.

Extensive use of truss bridge design ended in the 1930s. This Parker modified through truss is a good representation of heavy construction to accommodate the growing automobile traffic that seen in that period.

The Parker truss is a modification of the Pratt truss which uses a polygonal or arched top chord, giving the truss greater load capacity and simplified structural composition.

Main St, Beacon Falls

This is an extensive industrial plant made of a roughly linear string of dozens of two to three story brick buildings dating from 1853 to 1916. The two oldest blocks of the mill are of timber mill construction and each has a five and a half story tower.

The first occupants, American Hard Rubber Co. then the Home Woolen Co., contributed to the development of the area in the 1850s. Next, the Beacon Falls Rubber Shoe Co. moved in and became the economic and social driver of the town through the 1930s.

The main mill buildings are now the Beacon Mill Village apartments.
